Domain Authority Checker

How the Domain Authority Checker Works

Enter any domain and we pull its Domain Authority from Moz's link data, along with about four years of monthly DA history. You also get linking domain counts, backlink counts, link propensity, Spam Score, and the date Moz last crawled it.

Nothing is crawled live and you don't need an API key. Single mode returns in about a second. Bulk mode handles up to 100 domains at a time.

Many sites exist twice in the link graph as example.com and www.example.com. Enter either version and we check both, then show you whichever has the higher score since that's usually the one other sites link to.

Reading Your Results

Domain Authority runs from 0 to 100 on a logarithmic scale, which matters more than most people realize. Every step up gets harder. Moving from 20 to 30 is real progress. Moving from 80 to 90 takes an enormous amount of work.

Linking Domains counts how many different sites link to you. Backlinks counts how many individual pages do. Ten links from one site equal ten backlinks but only one linking domain, and linking domains carry far more weight.

Followed versions of both columns exclude nofollow links, which generally don't pass ranking signals.

Spam Score counts spam signals from 0 to 100. Worth watching if a lot of high scoring domains link to you.

Last Checked is the date of Moz's most recent crawl. An older date means your recent link building isn't reflected yet.

Common Questions

What's a good Domain Authority?

The only honest answer is: higher than the sites ranking for your keywords. DA is a comparison, not a grade. If your top competitors sit at 35, hitting 45 is a genuine win. If they sit at 80, hitting 50 still leaves you behind. Compare against the sites actually beating you, not against a round number.

Does Google use Domain Authority?

No. Google has said repeatedly that it doesn't use Moz DA. It's Moz's own prediction of ranking ability, built from Moz's own crawl. DA is still a useful yardstick for link profile strength. Just remember that raising DA doesn't raise rankings on its own. The two move together because the same work improves both.

Why isn't my DA going up?

Four usual suspects. Moz only refreshes about once a month, so recent links may not be counted yet. Your competitors are earning links too, so you have to outpace them just to hold position. Toxic links can drag you down while good ones pull you up. And the higher you climb, the slower it gets.

How long does it take to move?

Months, not weeks. A new site can gain five to ten points in six months with focused work. An established site might move two to four points a year.
